Seeking: DevOps Engineer
Goram and Vincent is looking to expand its Magento 2 development team with the addition of a new DevOps Engineer.
Who are we?
Goram & Vincent is an ecommerce agency specialising in design, build and optimisation for our clients and partners. We’re responsible for web stores and infrastructure that deliver in excess of £60m in revenue a year for our clients around the globe. We currently develop and deploy into markets around the world as geographically diverse as Mexico and New Zealand with anything in between.
What are we looking for?
We’re seeking a DevOps Engineer to join our vibrant in-house development team on a permanent basis. This is a brand new, founding role and we’re looking for someone to come in and take ownership of what we have, refine it, overhaul it if need be, and help us to grow the agency, and thus your own DevOps team as well. You’ll be working alongside the Development, QA and Project Management leads, and reporting directly to the Technical Director.
The role will be focused on supporting our Magento Ecommerce development team and a stack that is made up of Linux on AWS (currently supported by Rackspace), largely managed by Ansible and CloudFormation. It’s a mature setup that’s been running well for nearly 3 years – built and maintained by a long term contractor, plus the developers themselves.
We’ve automated large parts of the provision (software/packages only), config and deployment lifecycle across multiple environments, but there’s so much more we’d like to do, as well as becoming more self-sufficient with AWS itself. We’ve just started to look at semi-automating our testing, but our release management/building is still quite manual. We have a pretty solid base but you’ll have tons of scope to improve and join things up – eventually introducing a proper end-to-end CI/CD pipeline.
At the centre of this, we’re supporting one of the most progressive home technology brands in the world today, helping them to develop their direct to consumer offering in emerging and established markets all over the globe. If you’ve ever dreamed of working with a genuinely huge brand that really understands technology and the development process, this is your chance. You’ll be looking after 5-figure monthly AWS budgets and helping us be more proactive in how we manage and monitor that.
Another reason for us creating this role is that we aim to significantly expand our enterprise level ecommerce client base over the next couple of years, and enhancing our DevOps capability and being totally self-sufficient in AWS is going to be pivotal on order for us to achieve this.
Is this you?
AWS, particularly in Linux flavour, should be your absolute core capability. Ideally you’ll be AWS certified, or at least working towards it and very close to completing. Our next skill set priority would be Ansible which makes up a significant part of our stack. This runs out of a Vagrant based virtual-machine which makes up the developer environment, as well as being able to handle provisioning (software/packages only), site setup, and deployment to remote environments. There’s some Python and Bash scripts joining it all up, and there’s also a tiny bit of Node.js/Lambdas, so any experience here is nice to have.
We also use CloudFormation but this is currently managed by Rackspace. So the ability to bring this in house, or experience in tools such as Terraform, will be of significant interest to us. Other than that, knowing your way around a LEMP stack should be a given.
We don’t expect you to be a developer, but we are striving for a culture where Development, QA and DevOps are integrated and working as a unit and not in silos. An appreciation for the ‘Dev’ part in DevOps is going to be really important to us. We will be taking full responsibility for training you on the nuances of Magento and how it runs, builds and deploys though.
Technology aside, we like folk that are keen and able to learn new things quickly. We like adaptable, creative, nurturing team players who are curious, ambitious and understand the importance of supporting the wellbeing and progress of the wider team. We like those who can recognise the value in a job well done, while being pragmatic and knowing when to pick their battles. Rockstars and Ninjas need not apply.
Practical experience working in teams on large websites or mature digital products with multiple integrations and dependencies, and a healthy, robust contribution and release culture, will catch our attention..
So, if you like the sound of the above, coupled with a wonderful, relaxed working environment, and you’re ready to help us crack on and build something wonderful – we’d love to hear from you!
